The journal and all papers published in the journal shall observe these following Research and Publication Ethics.
These Research Ethics Guidelines (hereafter "guidelines") for authors, editors, readers, and all members (including the Research Ethics Committee), aim to prevent research misconduct and, should research misconduct be found to occur, seek to establish a fair and standardized set of protocols.
The guidelines apply to all members of the English Language and Literature Association of Korea (hereafter “ELLAK”) and those who submit and review submissions for publication in The Journal of English Language and Literature (hereafter "JELL").
These Guidelines take effect from April 20, 2020.

1. PlagiarismAuthors submitting papers to JELL shall not take any part of another researcher’s contribution to the field without acknowledgment (or, depending on specific cases, without uncited pre-arranged permissions being granted). So doing shall be regarded as an act of plagiarism.

2. Research contributionJELL seeks from authors research that contributes to the field original and innovative critique and analysis.

3. Duplicate publications or re-publicationsAuthors shall not send the same manuscript simultaneously to two or more publishers; nor shall authors submit previously published research papers to JELL. If an author wishes to heavily revise and publish older research as a new paper, the editor responsible for the previous publication of the research paper must be notified and full information about the previous publication, including editor and publisher details, shall be provided to JELL when authors first submit their papers for consideration.

4. Co-Author(s)At the moment of submission, co-authors shall specify on a separate cover page their respective responsibility for and contribution to the composition of the article submitted. Where necessary, the editorial board can require from co-authors evidence of their co-authorship, and any violation of the journal’s research and publication code of ethics will bring into force the relevant punitive measures.

5. RevisionWhere possible and as necessary, authors shall revise their manuscript according to the reviewers' recommendations. Non-compliance with the recommendations of the reviewers should be justified by providing reasons and evidence. Editors at JELL reserve the right to compel authors to follow reviewer recommendations.

6. PledgeAll the authors who submit research papers to JELL shall pledge themselves to observe the Research Ethics and Submission Guidelines as well as Publishing Ethics, and provide these pledges of academic honesty when submitting final drafts for publication in JELL.

All members of the ELLAK shall pledge themselves to observe the following guidelines.

2. The Ethics Committee
One member on the Ethics Committee (hereafter "committee") shall be appointed by committee members to be the Chair, and shall be approved by ELLAK’s Board of Directors. The committee shall comprise of five members. If a committee member submits a manuscript to JELL, a new member shall be appointed while this particular paper goes through peer review processes.

3. Committee Members
- (1) The committee shall have one Chair and one Secretary.
- (2) The Chair shall be selected from the committee members and the Chair shall appoint a Secretary.
- (3) The Chair shall lead the Committee and the Secretary shall take care of committee affairs.

4. Committee Functions
The committee shall manage all affairs concerning the Research and Publication Ethics guidelines, and shall convene should misconduct be found to occur.

5. Committee Meetings
- (1) The Chair is responsible for convening committee meetings.
- (2) A meeting shall be held when requested by the Chair or more than three members of the committee.
- (3) Meetings require that more than half of the committee members shall be present; decisions shall be ratified only when voted affirmatively by more than half the members present at meetings.
- (4) The committee meeting processes shall be kept confidential.

6. Request for Review
- (1) Any properly concerned person may request a written review.
- (2) The Chair shall convene a meeting as soon as possible when such a request is received.

7. Procedure
- (1) When a case of academic or research misconduct occurs, the question of whether it will be reviewed by the committee or referred to outside members shall be decided by the committee.
- (2) In the event that the committee decides to perform the review, the committee shall make a decision on a case after full discussion. The committee can ask the author of the manuscript, the reviewer who has raised the question, and if necessary others for an interview. An author whose manuscript is in doubt should comply with the committee's summons. An author's non-compliance shall be considered non-observance of the guidelines.
- (3) The committee shall allow the author a full and complete opportunity to defend themselves against any charges brought against them.
- (4) The committee shall not reveal details concerning the author until a final decision is made.
- (5) The committee shall keep the review process in written form and keep a copy signed by the author.

8. Report of Committee Review Result
The committee should report the result to the President of the ELLAK. The report should include:
- (1) A detailed account of the charges of research misconduct
- (2) The committee’s processes in exploring the charges
- (3) The basis and proof of the decision
- (4) The explanations offered by the author, if any.
- (5) Punitive measures, if any.

9. Punitive Measures
When the committee recommends punitive measures should be taken, the President of ELLAK shall convene a meeting in order to bring the punitive measures into effect. Punitive measures can include:
- (1) Admonition
- (2) Suspension or cancellation of ELLAK membership
- (3) Barring submission to JELL for three years from the date of decision
- 10. The revision of guidelines is pursuant to the procedure of revision. When the guidelines are revised, the revisions will be observed by all the members without additional pledge.
The Research Ethics Guidelines and Regulations take effect as from November 30, 2007, when it was first established.

The Publishing Ethics Guidelines (hereafter "guidelines") for authors, editors, readers, and all members (including the Research Ethics Committee), aim to prevent research misconduct and, should research misconduct be found to occur, seek to establish a fair and standardized set of protocols.

The guidelines apply to all members of the English Language and Literature Association of Korea (hereafter "ELLAK") and those who submit and review submissions for publication in The Journal of English Language and Literature (hereafter “JELL").

3. Applicable Date
These Guidelines take effect from April 20, 2020.
- 1. The editors of JELL should ensure that all submissions follow closely the below guidelines.
- 2. The editors of JELL should consider the quality of the submission and not discriminate according to race, gender, age, organization, or according to the submitting author's background.
- 3. The number of reviewers per manuscript should be three.
- 4. The editors should not reveal the author's name or other identifying features of the submission until it has been accepted for publication.
- 5. The reviewers should not reject a submission without sufficient reason, nor simply for the reason that the submission does not agree with the reviewer's own point[s] of view.
- 6. The reviewer should respect the submitting author's character and the uniqueness of the submitting author's discipline, and where there are clear and present reasons for revision, these reasons should be outlined clearly and in carefully elaborated detail. These reasons for revision will be given to the editorial board, who will pass these to the submitting author.
- 7. Reviewers may neither reveal nor quote the content of the submission reviewed without the submitting authors permission until publication. Rejected submissions may not be quoted, nor their contents revealed.
- 8. The authors who submit their articles to JELL should read and observe the Publishing Ethics as well as the Research Ethics and Submission Guidelines.
